QUEENS, N.Y. The St. John’s men’s basketball program has added its second newcomer for the 2024-25 season with the signing of former North Texas standout Aaron Scott on Wednesday.
“We are super excited to have Aaron in our program,” said Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Coach Rick Pitino. “We competed against him this past year and know him extremely well. He is a multidimensional forward who brings a lot to our team from the offensive and defensive end.”
Scott appeared in 104 games for the Mean Green over the last three seasons, averaging 7.4 points shooting 48.1 percent (284-590 FG) from the field and 37.0 percent (70-191 3FG) from distance. The 6-foot-7 wing also pulled down 5.1 rebounds per game during his career at North Texas.
A native of Spring, Texas, Scott is coming off a career season where he posted 11.0 points, 5.6 points and 1.8 assists per game to help North Texas to a berth in the 2024 National Invitation Tournament (NIT).
Scott scored a career-high 26 points in the season opener against Northern Iowa on Nov. 7, marking the first of 18 double-digit scoring efforts last season. He was named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week for his performance against Northern Iowa. Scott also shined in a contest with St. John’s at the Charleston Classic, posting a team-high 13 points to go with seven rebounds in a one-point setback against the Red Storm.
Scott played a vital role in North Texas’ NIT Championship run in 2023, notably making a key block in the final seconds of the team’s semifinal victory over Wisconsin. Scott then delivered a 14-point performance shooting 6-for-10 from the field and grabbed seven rebounds in the title game against UAB. He finished his sophomore campaign averaging 7.0 points and 5.5 boards per game.
A 2022 Conference USA All-Freshman Team selection, Scott played in all 32 games in his first season at North Texas. He was named Conference USA Freshman of the Week three times during the season and scored a season-high 13 points in a win over Southern Miss on Jan. 27, 2022.
