Slazinski Signs with Johnnies

QUEENS, N.Y. (April 26, 2023) – Former Louisville and Iona standout Quinn Slazinski officially signed with the St. John’s men’s basketball program on Wednesday, joining Hall of Fame coach Rick Pitino and the Red Storm for the 2023-24 season.

“Quinn was ready to have an outstanding year last season, but unfortunately he had to have foot surgery and missed the season,” said Pitino. “He’s a veteran basketball player who shoots it well and really knows how to play the game. Quinn is an excellent passer and should give us a lot of front court help with the very strong BIG EAST teams we will face next year.”

Slazinski became the third former Gael to make his way from New Rochelle to Queens, joining Daniss Jenkins and Cruz Davis. The 6-foot-9 forward has appeared in 75 games during his four collegiate seasons, beginning at the University of Louisville for his first two years before playing the past two seasons at Iona. Slazinski has averaged 6.6 points and 3.0 rebounds over his career. The Houston native also scored double figures 20 times, including a pair of 20-plus point performances, during his time competing that the Division I level.

During his two seasons at Iona, Slazinski averaged 8.9 points, shot 82.4 percent at the free-throw line, and hit 45 threes over 40 appearances for the Gaels. As a junior in 2021-22, he started 23 of 33 appearances while averaging 8.4 points playing 19.8 minutes per game. Slazinski also buried a career-high 36 threes that season. This past season with the Gaels, Slazinski averaged 11.3 points, shooting 42.6 percent from the field, to go with 5.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists in seven appearances before suffering a season-ending injury.

Slazinski played in 35 games during his two years at Louisville. In 20 appearances as a sophomore in 2020-21, he averaged 6.2 points and 3.6 rebounds playing 21.1 minutes per game. That season, he scored in double figures five times with a season-high 11 points at Wisconsin. Slazinski saw action in 15 games as a freshman for the Cards in 2019-20.

Prior to his time at Louisville, Slazinski averaged 14.3 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists in his final season at Huntington Prep in 2018-19, helping the team to a 20-5 record and No. 16 national ranking among prep schools. Slazinski earned All-USA West Virginia Boys Basketball Second Team honors that season. As a junior in 2017-18, Slazinski posted 11.1 points and 5.2 rebounds in helping Huntington Prep to a 21-7 record. Before Huntington Prep, Slazinski earned first team all-district honors as a sophomore at Westbury Christian School in Houston, helping his team win the Texas 5A championship with a 23-point performance in the title game.
