NEW YORK (AP) — Barry Rohrssen, considered one of the top recruiting assistant coaches in college basketball, is no longer on Chris Mullin's staff at St. John's.

Rohrssen, a former head coach at Manhattan who came to St. John's from being on John Calipari's staff at Kentucky, spent one season with the Red Storm.

"St. John's University and the Department of Athletics confirm Barry Rohrssen is no longer a member of the men's basketball coaching staff," the school said in a statement. "His employment at the University ended August 31, 2016 and in accordance with the University's confidentiality policy for personnel matters, there will be no further comment."

Contacted by text, Rohrssen did not comment.

Rohrssen was an assistant coach at Pittsburgh for seven years with several of his recruits a key to the Panthers' rise in the Big East.

No replacement for Rohrssen has been named although Mullin could promote fellow Naismith Hall of Famer and current special assistant Mitch Richmond.
