Red Storm offers 3-Star forward

Rivals three-star forward Anthony Walker is starting to establish himself as a hot commodity in recruiting circles. According to many reports, Walker had a very good week in New York at the Adidas Gauntlet Finale, and impressed St. John’s assistant coach Matt Abdelmassih in the process.

The 6-foot-8 forward confirmed his offer to RedStormReport.com, and said, “It feels good being looked at by the program and I’m excited.”

Walker has a slew of offers, and after the week he had, more are expected as interest in the talented forward has picked up.

“My athleticism stands out to a lot of coaches,” he said. “I have a quick second jump, I dunk a lot and I’m getting more consistent with my jump shot—I’m a big versatile wing.”

Walker said that he plans to cut his list to five post-July and start taking official visits. St. Johns could be right there for the rising prospect that has history with the area due to him visiting Brooklyn over various summers to visit his grandfather as a kid and the fact that there is NBA experience within the coaching staff.

“I know that Chris Mullin is the head coach and he played in the NBA, so he knows what it’s like to play at the highest level. He has experience,” Walker said. “It means he knows how to win and knows how to make players around him better. He knows how to develop players and I’m intrigued by that.”

When asked about visiting the campus, the No. 147 prospect in the class of 2019 replied, “that can happen,” and also dismissed location as a factor, “because I’m going to have to be away from home at some point in my life. It’s better to get use to that early.”

Walker is a prospect that St. John’s will certainly continue to follow as they have started to recruit a lot of prospects that can play both forward positions as evidence by Marvin Clark and David Caraher. It could be a nice fit for a player like Walker who could come in and continue to develop while learning from an NBA legend.

He will finish his senior year at Brewster Academy in New Hampshire, which is about a five-hour car trip or flight away from a campus that Walker described as “nice.”
