Pinzon picks the Johnnies

St. John’s got some tremendous news yesterday when they got a commitment from 4 star guard Rafael Pinzon. The rising senior from Long Island Lutheran is ranked one of the best players in New York state and has decided to stay local.

Pinzon recently trimmed his list down to Florida, New Mexico and St. John’s saying he loved all three but was close to a decision. He announced his commitment to St. Johns via his Twitter account.

The sharpshooting guard has some international experience playing for Puerto Rico which should help him at the next level. He transferred to LuHi last season from Lincoln Academy in Georgia and made an impact. Pinzon will join fellow Crusader forward Drissa Traore who also committed to St. Johns this summer. Head Coach Mike Anderson grabs his second local target and they’re possibly could be some more to come.

St. Johns gets a long athletic guard who can help space the floor and really heat up. The rising senior flourished in big games last season for the Crusaders and once he healed from his early season injury LuHi seemed to play their best basketball.

Pinzon isn’t just a shooter he’s terrific in transition, rebounds well and can guard multiple positions. He makes winning plays, has a good basketball IQ and is tough. Coach Anderson gets a great prospect who’s yet to reach his full potential and has the ability to be a major contributor at St. Johns.
