Bulldogs blow out DePaul, 76-45
TAMPA, Fla., - Mississippi State continued their hot shooting and their winning ways Thursday night disposing of DePaul 76-45 at the SEC-Big East Invitational.
The Bulldogs knocked down 12 3-pointers against DePaul including nine in the first half to put the game away early. State built a 20 point lead by halftime and never looked back.
The win was Mississippi State's third straight coming off impressive performances against Old Dominion and St. Bonaventure as well.
"I think as a team we have gotten a few of our pieces together during the last three games for the first time," Stansbury said. "I think I see a little bit more rhythm coming from our team. We've just got to keep getting better."
MSU (6-2) also continued their success at the St. Pete Times Forum, the site where they claimed the SEC Tournament championship back in March.
The Bulldogs shot 43.6-percent from the floor for the game including draining 12-of-29 shots from behind the arc and had five players score in double figures.
"Whenever you make shots it makes the world go around," Stansbury said. "But what our team can start on the defensive end gives you so much more room to play with freedom offensively. I think the first half defensively we were pretty good and didn't give up a lot of baskets. I think they only had five field goals in the first half which in turn allowed us to get out in transition a lot."
Ravern Johnson led the Bulldogs with 14 points shooting 5-of-8 on the night. Johnson also hit four first half treys to help built the first half advantage.
